We’re well into summer mode here in Grande Prairie, with agreeable temperatures and sunny weather appearing more often than not. If you’re planning on joining us before the end of August, then you’ll be able all the best things about the season. And by that, we mean: The Great Outdoors. When you’re not enjoying the sights and simple pleasures of Grand Prairie, you’ll be to explore a trio of scenic, natural playgrounds that’ll ensure you and the family have a memorable trip to Alberta.

Outdoor recreation and wildlife

Located just 25 minutes west of Grande Prairie, Saskatoon Island Provincial Park offers its visitors an extensive range of recreational opportunities, including the chance to try your hand at baseball, volleyball, kayaking or canoeing, and hiking. There are plenty of birds that call this park home, so don’t forget your binoculars, either.

Bear Lake

Less interested in on land activities, more interested in the water? Then Bear Lake is for you. The lake measures in at four miles wide and six miles long, and is an ideal spot canoeing, windsurfing, or any other type of vessel that you like taking out on water! The lake is thirty minutes north of Grande Prairie.

Alberta’s beauty

If you want the challenge of a longer hike, then head down to Willmore Wilderness Park, which is around a two hour drive south. This park showcases the majesty of Alberta, though is relatively unvisited compared to nearby parks. Put on the hiking boots, grab the supplies, and head out for a day of nature.
