Classic Cars Rev Up Grande Prairie August 15, 16

Visitors to Grande Prairie are in for a treat this weekend as the 2015 Drag Wars and Car Show rolls onto the scene at the Grande Prairie Airport. Happening August 15 and 16, you can check out drag racers from all across Canada come to burn rubber on the tarmac, and classic car owners show off their four-wheeled babies. This annual event always draws a crowd, so remember your sunscreen and have a blast watching the spin-outs! The airport is less than 10 minutes from the front doors of the Paradise Inn & Conference Centre.

Autumn Festival: August 30

See how things were done the old fashioned way! Before modern machinery made our lives a heck of a lot easier, we used to use pure braun to get things accomplished. With live music, a craft show and sale, horse-drawn wagon rides and lard rendering, you can also see some cross-cut log sawing and balance on a tractor teeter totter. The fun goes down from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 30 at the South Peace Centennial Museum is about a half hour’s drive from our hotel.

Grande Prairie has a rich history as an important farming and livestock town—and, of course, a town full of entertainment for the farmers, cowboys, and cowgirls that filled the town. All of that entertainment, from rodeos to stampedes to incredible stories coming in from the range, still exists in the town. Here are three historical options for you to take in this July.

Rio Grande Rodeo – July 1st-3rd

Everyone loves a good rodeo, and there’s no better than the Rio Grande. In its 99th anniversary year, this rodeo hasn’t lost any of its amazing displays and exciting action. Head ringside to see everything from bronco, bareback, and bull riding, barrel racing, calf roping, steer wrestling, and—our personal favourite—wild cow milking. There’s also all of the other favourites, from corn dogs to crowns, so don’t miss this favourite event! Learn more here.

Teepee Creek Stampede – July 9th-12th

Another local favourite that’s also in its 99th anniversary year, the Teepee Creek Stampede brings different events to those who’ve already seen the rodeo. From live music to horsemanship displays, chuckwagon races and even fireworks, there’s plenty to do. The event is also family-friendly, with a family dinner and dance, bouncy castles, and plenty of activities for the young ones. Learn more here.

The Horse Drive of Harry Adair – July 12th

Over one hundred years ago, Harry Adair set out from Montana with three relatives, a few wranglers, and over 700 head of horses. This open-air play tells the story of his incredible journey, taking over three years to arrive in Grande Prairie, where he established the largest ranch in the Peace Country. This fascinating look at the city’s past will enthrall locals and visitors alike. Learn more here.

These events will be sure to excite you while allowing you to look back on the incredible past of our city. Still, Grande Prairie may be full of history, but our hotel is completely modern. You’ll love our premium rooms, so book yours today. We look forward to your visit!

The Paradise Inn & Conference Centre is proud to sponsor the Grande Prairie Stompede. May 27- May 31 2015 at Evergreen Park. There will be fun for the whole family with a midway opening Thursday at 5pm with Chuckwagon and mini chuckwagon events daily starting at 5pm. Come enjoy the great attractions in GP this weekend and stay with us!

In the heart of the Albertan prairie, Grand Prairie is about as Canadian as it gets. This truly shines through in the city’s culture, where you can see the best of Canada’s heartland. Whether you appreciate the economy that makes a country run, the music that makes it dance, or exciting events that make it stand up and cheer, there’s something for you.

Peace Region Petroleum Show – May 13th-14th

Canada is a land of natural resources, making oil-rich Alberta the ideal location for a petroleum show. Join thousands of visitors as they look through hundreds of exhibitions. You’ll have the chance to get acquainted with Canadian soil (but hopefully not sand) as you play in the exhibitor’s golf tournament. Then, spend some time with the local businesses in the trade show before you relax in the hospitality lounge. Visit their website for more information.

Fiddling In The Key of Eh?! – May 23rd

A true Canadian, Scott Woods joins his band for a classic exhibition of fine prairie fiddling. Music from the 30s, 40s, and 50s will be performed alongside Woods’ patented step-dancing, homespun humour, and trick fiddling. And, on top of that, he’s as polite as you’d imagine! You’ll be able to join the triple-fiddle harmony with your own voice as they play familiar classics. Learn more at their website.

Grande Prairie Stompede – May 27th-31st

The “grande” finale of the month is the Grande Prairie Stompede. You read that right: it’s a stompede because you’ll be stomping and hollering as you cheer for the incredible chuck-wagon racedrivers, trick-riders, cowboys, cowgirls, and hold-on-tight stallion tamers. Or feast your eyes on the brightly-coloured clowns as they pop in and out of the stands. This is an event that’s not to be missed! Get your tickets today.

Whether you’re a Canadian for life or a Canadian for the weekend, Grande Prairie is the perfect place to become a part of this great country. And while you’re up here, spend your nights in the midst of true Canadian hospitality by staying with us. Book your room today. We look forward to your visit!

The Paradise Inn & Conference Centre would like to welcome all participants to Grande Prairie for the Special Olympics 2015 Alberta Winter Games Feb 20-22 2015.
